Chorionic Villus Sampling – CVS is a form of prenatal diagnosis during which part – sample of the placental tissue – chorionic villi is absorbed with puncture through the abdominal walls and uterine wall. The examination is effectuated under local anaesthesia at the doctor’s practice.

CVS usually takes place between 10th and 13th week of gestation, earlier than other diagnostic tests, such as amniocentesis. Through molecular control it is examined the embryo’s karyotype and a number of genetic disorders.
