First Trimester Screening

προγεννητικός-Α

Nuchal Translucency Scan –Papp-A blood test

It takes place between the 10th and the 13th week of gestation. It assesses the quantity of fluid collecting within the nape of the embryo’s neck and the nasal bone. Papp-A hormone and b-hCG are examined in the mother’s blood.

Taking into account all the above indicators, in conjunction with the maternal age, it is calculated the possibility for chromosomal abnormalities in the embryo (Down Syndrome – Trisomy 21, Patau Syndrome, Trisomy 13 and Edwards Syndrome – Trisomy 18) and accordingly we are directed to further investigation with CVS – chorionic villus sampling or amniocentesis.
